英國諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行校長(zhǎng)席若·韋斯特教授榮獲“寧波市榮譽(yù)市民”稱號(hào)

本周，英國諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行校長(zhǎng)、寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行理事長(zhǎng)席若·韋斯特教授被授予“寧波市榮譽(yù)市民”稱號(hào)。她是繼甘柯林爵士、大衛(wèi) · 格林納威爵士后，第三位獲此殊榮的英國諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行校長(zhǎng)、寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行理事長(zhǎng)。

據(jù)悉，寧波市榮譽(yù)市民是寧波市為鼓勵(lì)和表彰對(duì)本市經(jīng)濟(jì)社會(huì)發(fā)展、科技進(jìn)步、對(duì)外交流合作、提升本市國際形象和影響力等方面作出突出貢獻(xiàn)的港澳臺(tái)同胞、華僑、外國人和市外其他“寧波幫”、幫寧波人士，給予寧波市摯友的最高榮譽(yù)。至今，“寧波市榮譽(yù)市民”已有211位。

席若·韋斯特教授是英國諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行校長(zhǎng)、寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行理事長(zhǎng)，于2017年10月正式上任。履職以來，她為建設(shè)高水平中外合作大學(xué)傾注了大量的心血，與寧波人民建立了深厚的友誼。她大力引進(jìn)國際一流教學(xué)和科研創(chuàng)新資源，進(jìn)一步提升了寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)培養(yǎng)高質(zhì)量國際化人才以及服務(wù)地方社會(huì)經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展的能力，為寧波高等教育事業(yè)的發(fā)展作出了重要貢獻(xiàn)。

在席若·韋斯特教授的大力推動(dòng)下，諾丁漢大學(xué)卓越燈塔計(jì)劃（寧波）創(chuàng)新研究院于今年5月入駐寧波國家高新區(qū)。圍繞寧波市“246”產(chǎn)業(yè)體系，研究院聚焦智能制造、綠色化學(xué)與能源、生命健康三大重點(diǎn)領(lǐng)域，大力引進(jìn)英國諾丁漢大學(xué)的科技創(chuàng)新與人才資源，建設(shè)一批高標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的實(shí)驗(yàn)室群。該研究院的構(gòu)建，既是世界一流大學(xué)優(yōu)質(zhì)科創(chuàng)資源與我國國家發(fā)展戰(zhàn)略、地方經(jīng)濟(jì)社會(huì)發(fā)展的深度融合，也是寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)戰(zhàn)略發(fā)展的重要航標(biāo)。

韋斯特教授對(duì)寧波市和寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)懷有深厚的情感，自2017年以來先后九次訪甬，2020年雖因疫情未能成行，她堅(jiān)持通過視頻連線、電話會(huì)議和郵件等方式保持溝通和推進(jìn)發(fā)展，尤其在校地合作、抗疫復(fù)學(xué)方面，做了大量富有成效的工作。

在全球抗擊新冠疫情的過程中，韋斯特教授鼓勵(lì)和支持寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)發(fā)揮中外橋梁作用，協(xié)助中英凝聚抗疫合力。2020年3月，諾丁漢大學(xué)組織了特別視頻會(huì)議，寧波市第一醫(yī)院新冠肺炎診療專家團(tuán)隊(duì)、寧波援武漢醫(yī)療隊(duì)向英諾醫(yī)學(xué)院和附屬醫(yī)院分享了新冠肺炎診斷防治經(jīng)驗(yàn)；6月，在諾丁漢大學(xué)的協(xié)調(diào)下，寧波市與英國諾丁漢市舉行了疫情防控及經(jīng)濟(jì)社會(huì)秩序恢復(fù)視頻交流會(huì)，分享了在疫情防控以及復(fù)工復(fù)產(chǎn)復(fù)學(xué)方面的做法。

2020年10月，鄭柵潔省長(zhǎng)在給席若韋斯特教授的回信中特別指出，“面對(duì)新冠肺炎疫情這一全人類的共同挑戰(zhàn)，英國諾丁漢大學(xué)、寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)積極參與全球應(yīng)對(duì)工作，充分體現(xiàn)了一流大學(xué)的世界情懷和擔(dān)當(dāng)精神”，并寄語學(xué)校繼續(xù)開展國際創(chuàng)新合作，為增進(jìn)中英人民友誼作出更大貢獻(xiàn)。

UoN Vice-Chancellor Shearer West awarded honorary citizenshipof Ningbo

Professor Shearer West, President and Vice-Chancellor of University of Nottingham (UoN), was awarded honorary citizenship of Ningbo this week. She is the third Vice-Chancellor of UoN to receive this honour after Professor Sir Colin Campbell and Professor Sir David Greenaway.

Ningbo honorary citizenship is the highest honour given to compatriots of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, overseas Chinese, foreigners, as well as Ningbo’s friends and supporters who have contributed to the economic development, scientific advancements, international cooperation, or international image and influence of Ningbo. So far, 211 people have been awarded the title of Honorary Citizen.

Professor Shearer West became the President andVice-Chancellor of UoNin October 2017. Since then, she has devoted a lot of efforts to the construction of a high-level Sino-foreign university and established a profound friendship with the people of Ningbo. By introducing world-class teaching and research innovation resources, she has further enhanced UNNC’s ability to cultivate high-quality international talents and serve local social and economic development, making vital contributions to higher education in Ningbo.

With strong support from Professor West, the Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute was established in Ningbo National High-tech Industrial Development Zone in May this year. Centering on the “246” industrial cluster of Ningbo, the Institute focuses on intelligent manufacturing, green chemicals and energy, and life science and healthcare, introducing the scientific and technological innovation resources and talents of the University of Nottingham to build high-standard laboratories.

Since 2017, Professor West has made nine visits to Ningbo. Even when under the impact of the pandemic in 2020, she kept close connection and communication via video calls, conference calls and e-mail. Supporting UNNC to play its essential role as a bridge between China and the UK, she contributed greatly to the establishment of Ningbo’s international connection, cross-border experience sharing on pandemic prevention and control, promotion of preparation work of campus reopening, and the communications upon the recovery of economic development.

In October 2020, Zheng Shanjie, Governor of Zhejiang Province, addressed in his response letter to Professor West that in the face of the challenges brought by Covid-19, the University of Nottingham and UNNC proactively responded to the challenges. “This fully showed the international vision and responsibility of world first-class universities.” He also encouraged UNNC to continue to carry out international cooperation in innovation, and make greater contribution to the friendship and communications between China and the UK.
