藤校深造、臉書啟航，她用事實證明別樣的高考選擇

從求學到職場，湯舒蘭在外人的眼中一直是穩(wěn)扎穩(wěn)打的姑娘，具有獨特的見解。前不久，遠在美國Facebook工作的她換了一個部門，研究內部平臺和工具。

接到母校寧波諾丁漢大學（簡稱：寧諾）的連接，她真誠地表示，感恩母校在自己在校期間提供了許多平臺和機會，讓她更早地觸及到了更廣闊的世界。

當初湯舒蘭以高出天津一本線112分的優(yōu)異成績選擇了寧諾，她回憶道：“我沒有選擇常規(guī)款的985高校，父母剛開始非常不理解，之后他們咨詢了一位在天津大學做教授的朋友，這才放心！”

她說，自己一直喜歡寧諾的英式教育平臺，各種資源也相對寬泛些，她想走一條不尋常的路。

以社團拓寬人際圈 轉專業(yè)堅定求學目標

湯舒蘭拿著全額獎學金開啟了寧諾的求學之路。一進學校，她就感受到了濃郁的國際風，加入了飛盤社，結識了一眾極限飛盤的愛好者。平日一起訓練，周末去全國各地和大學生隊伍、社會上的俱樂部打比賽。也因此，舒蘭得以代表寧諾去英國和馬來西亞出征諾丁漢大學三校運動會，三屆里面拿到兩次飛盤的團隊冠軍。

受到隊友的影響，大一學期末，舒蘭從財務管理專業(yè)轉到了計算機專業(yè)：

報考的時候其實并不清楚自己喜歡的方向。在飛盤社接觸到很多計算機專業(yè)的同學，逐漸對這個領域有了了解，才發(fā)覺這才是我想要的。程序員的工作原來不是那么枯燥，而是用一種特有的方式來解決問題！

為了進一步確定方向，湯舒蘭大二時就開始跟著專業(yè)教授做科研項目。暑假期間，她在學校與全球圖形技術和數(shù)字媒體處理器行業(yè)領導廠商英偉達共建的實驗室里，接觸到了大數(shù)據(jù)、虛擬現(xiàn)實等不同的領域。

大三，湯舒蘭獲得了去澳洲一大學免學費交換一年的機會，但此時的她已經萌生了去美國深造的想法，因而放棄了這次留學體驗，轉而在暑假去寧諾在韓國的合作院校參加免學費的夏校。在那里，她接觸到了來自美國賓夕法尼亞州立大學的教授，體驗了美式專業(yè)課，堅定了藤校的申請之路。

用創(chuàng)意敲開名校大門 順利入職Facebook

大四時，湯舒蘭申請了10個碩士項目，收到了哥倫比亞大學、杜克大學、萊斯大學、南加利福尼亞大學和紐約大學5所世界頂尖大學的錄取通知書，最終她選擇了常青藤名校、美國排名第三的哥倫比亞大學。

湯舒蘭說自己能被錄取，一方面是GPA換算成美國標準基本是滿分，另一方面就是有很多相關的科研項目經歷。她的畢業(yè)項目通過機器學習分析NBA球員的移動軌跡，以幫助分析各隊戰(zhàn)術。項目將專業(yè)和個人愛好緊密結合，也為名校申請加了不少分。

寧諾的教學模式和管理方式給我們很多機會鍛煉自己，計劃、思考自己未來的成長方向，這對于個人發(fā)展非常關鍵。其次，全英文的教學讓我打下了扎實的語言基礎，所以以后我無論是讀研還是工作，可以說都比較適應！

因此，湯舒蘭從哥倫比亞大學畢業(yè)后，就留在美國工作，進入了世界知名社交網(wǎng)站臉書（Facebook），經過輪崗之后加入廣告部門，和同事們一起搭建功能強大的廣告框架，對于全球的程序員來說，能在Facebook工作，是實力的象征。

其實，湯舒蘭與Facebook的緣分始于在寧諾申研時參與的一個APP應用程序開發(fā)項目。一起做項目的還有一個當時在Facebook工作的工程師。湯舒蘭因為出色的能力獲得了該工程師的內部推薦，在去美國深造時通過兩輪面試，被錄用為Facebook的實習生，最終順利入職。

湯舒蘭說，如今回首校園生活，自己向來是一個按計劃實施的人，但進入寧諾之后，自己的自主能力以及學業(yè)職業(yè)的規(guī)劃能力更加得到了鍛煉，而這些良好的習慣和前瞻性的邏輯才成全了如今的自己。

UNNC alumna explores possibilities of career at Facebook

Shulan Tang, a graduate of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) and currently an employee of Facebook in the US, has always been grateful to her alma mater. From her undergraduate study to her career, she appreciated the various opportunities and platforms provided by UNNC to develop and improve herself, bringing her to a wider world.

Longing for an international environment and a British educational experience, Shulan chose UNNC and obtained a full scholarship. She enjoyed the free campus atmosphere and joined the flying disc sports club - UFO, where she enjoyed sports and made a lot of good friends. She has represented UNNC in the Tri-Campus Games and won the team championship twice.

Under the influence of her teammates, Shulan found her passion in computer sciences and decided to transfer. “Programming is not as tedious as I imagined, but to solve problems with a unique way.”

Driven by this interest, Shulan began to explore the area and did research projects with professors in her second year, where she was exposed to different fields such as big data and virtual reality in the laboratory jointly built by UNNC and Nvidia.

With such accumulation and efforts in the professional area, in her final year Shulan received a handful of offers from top universities including Duke University, Rice University, University of Southern California, and New York University. Eventually, she chose Columbia University, which ranks third in the US.

When speaking of the reasons of her success, Shulan thinks that an outstanding GPA and her abundant scientific research project experience played a key role. She said: “The education style at UNNC gave me a lot of space and opportunities to develop myself and plan for my future study and career. The English teaching laid a solid language foundation for me, which made me more adaptable to new environments.”

After graduating from Columbia, Shulan entered the world-renowned social networking company Facebook. She recalled that this job opportunity actually started during her undergraduate study, when she learned of an engineer of Facebook in an application development project. She was noticed for her excellent performance and eminent capabilities, and was offered an interview opportunity thereafter.

Looking back on campus life, Shulan summarised that the impact of UNNC is reflected in her exceptional self-learning and planning abilities. The good habits she developed here undoubtedly brought her to the place she is now.
